About Us

It started in the 70’s with a group of concerned citizens who wanted to preserve our history. Today we have the museum, Old Stone House, Harriman Nielsen Historic Farm, REA Plant and Museum and a Machinery Hall in the works.

The museum is located on the Franklin County Fairgrounds on the West edge of Hampton, Iowa.

The Old Stone is located on the way to Geneva — take highway 65 south to Maynes Grove and turn left. ┬áDrive 3 miles and it’s on the corner.

Harriman-Nielsen Historic Farm is on Highway 3 across from the Franklin County Fairgrounds.

The REA Plant and Museum is 4 miles south on Highway 65 before Maynes Grove — turn right on the blacktop and go 2 miles.

History Begins Here

The Museum is open from January 15 through November 15: Monday - Friday, 1 to 4.

From Memorial Day through Labor Day, the museum is also open Sunday 1 to 4.

We will happily open at other times by appointment. Send an e-mail any time, call during regular museum hours, or during off hours, call Franklin County Tourism at 1 641 456 5668.
